Read more about the company and the founder on the Small Business Spotlight this week.

What does work do

Sells a wide variety of bath and body products.

The product line includes soaps, creams, salt scrubs, lip balms, and gel waxes.

Business standing

Decorative gel candles.

Owner Lisa Hansen says customers love the variety of fragrances and long-lasting burns.

“They also make great gifts for traveling with and returning to family and friends,” she adds.

How the work started

As a hobby.

Hansen simply enjoyed making soap for herself.

After that, she added, “I went ahead with making all the other products.”

The biggest win

Selling products in the local market.

“A market has opened for local artists and retailers in town,” Hansen explains. “I rented a stall for a year, which gave me the opportunity to display my products in a real store.”

“It made my business more visible and advertised,” she adds.

The biggest risk

Make a large investment up front.

“My biggest risk was to pay for the entire event season in full, up front, without knowing if it would be profitable or not,” says Hansen.

Lesson learned

Choose the right events.

Hansen explains, “At first I would have been smarter when choosing events. A lot of them are overrated. So I never made a profit.”

How they spent an additional $ 100,000

Create a place to work on new products.

“I’m going to invest it in a home workshop. I have a shed behind my house that would be perfect for it,” says Hansen.

Main talking point

The Company’s name.

“It’s always been a point of interest and a great start to conversations, which gives me an opportunity to talk about my work,” says Hansen.
